SAFETY
The HP Model 745i/747i was designed, manufactured and marketed in compliance
with published safety standards stated below. Qualification testing was done
with one unit representative of the product shipped to the customer. Continued
compliance is measured by periodic regulatory audits; production units are
tested for each audit. The Model 745i/747i is in compliance with the following
safety standards:

ELECTROMAGNETIC STANDARDS
The Model 745i/747i is in compliance with published standards for Electro-
magnetic Compatibility (EMC). Qualification testing was done with several
units of the Model 745i/747i which were representative of the product shipped
to customers. Continued compliance is measured by periodic regulatory
audits; production units are tested for each audit. The Model 745i/747i is in
compliance with these EMC Standards:
Federal Communications Commission (USA)
- FCC: Code of Federal Regulations, Title 47, part 15, Radio Frequency
Devices, Subpart J Computing Devices.
The Model 745i/747i has an FCC Class A label attached.
European Economic Community
- EMC Directive 89/336/EEC
The Model 745i/747i has a CE mark attached.
* Voluntary Control Council for Interface (Japan)
- CISPR: Publication 22, Limits and Methods of Measurement of Radio
Interference Characteristics of Information Technology Equipment.
(data processing equipment and electronic office machines).
The Model 745i/747i is registered by VCCI as a Class 1 product and carries
a VCCI label as evidence of this registration for Japan.

ACOUSTICS STANDARDS
The HP Model 745i/747i was designed and tested to have an A-weighted Sound
Power Emission Level (Lwa) of <7 Bels. Tests were conducted according to ISO
7779, "Measurement of Airborne Noise Emitted by Computer and Business Equipment",
and declared according to ISO 9296, "Declared Noise Emission Values of Computer
and Business Equipment", (Standard fan speed); room temperature approximately
25 degrees Celsius).
ERGONOMICS STANDARDS
The HP Model 745i/747i SPU was designed to comply with ZH-1/618 Edition:
10/80, "Safety Regulations for Display Work Places in the Office Sector".
=====================================================
ENVIRONMENTAL RUGGEDNESS
The Model 745i/747i is designed for use in an environment which involves
moderately high and low temperatures, humidity variations and occasional
vibration. Samples of the Model 745i/747i, representative of customer
shippable units, have been tested prior to the release of the units to
manufacturing. The products were evaluated in a variety of configurations
for each environmental test, so that worst case situations for all environ-
ments were tested. The numbers shown under "Test Results" are accurate as
of the date of this publication. Presentation of the test data does not
imply a guarantee of performance; a brief description of testing and
results for the monitor, follow in the section entitled "Test Summary
and Test Results"
In addition to these tests the Model 745i/747i was subjected to more severe
tests during the product development stage. These development tests were
designed to cause product failure so that the failure mechanisms are
understood and eliminated when possible.

RELIABILITY
Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) =15.1%/Yr (Model 747i with 16 Mbytes RAM).
Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) =13.1%/Yr (Model 745i with 16 Mbytes RAM).
The estimated AFR is based on parts count and the failure rates of
those parts in similar products. The AFR is estimated from the sum of
the failure rates of the component assemblies.
Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) = 6.6 years (Model 747i with 16 Mbytes RAM),
Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) = 7.6 years (Model 745i with 16 Mbytes RAM),
for average SPU, where MTBF = 1/AFR. A key assumption is that AFR is
constant beyond the early life of the product and before long-term wearout.
Projected Failure Rate is the mature AFR, estimated from the failure rates
of the components of the product. The "Estimated Long-Term Annualized
Failure Rate" is a future projection of an average realistic failure
rate beyond the typical infant failure period which occurs in the first
few months of use and before long-term wearout which occurs after many
years of use. This product assumes an 8000 hour usage year, which is
91% duty. Actual customer experience may vary slightly.

QUALITY FLOWCHART
The Model 745i/747i is designed to comply with all necessary regulatory
agency requirements for safety and environmental standards, and
Hewlett-Packard has ensured that additional environmental ruggedness
specification and reliability requirements are designed in. Finally, great
care is taken to consistently manufacture these features into each product
and operate an audit program which maintains these features. Here is a
flowchart of the major quality checkpoints in the manufacturing process:
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Incoming Quality Assurance
- Inspect mechanical parts for which we have no historical data. Provide
feedback to vendors. (Electronic components with less than 100 parts
per million failure rate are not inspected).
- 100% of new parts tested.
Clean and Inspect
- Soldered PC boards with active components cleaned and inspected.
- 100% of boards sensitive to heat or water tested.
Functional Board Test
- PC board tested with active components on HP 3065. Processor board
functionally tested with throughput tester.
- 100% of boards tested.
Unit Aging and Test
- Temperature cycled: 0 degrees C to + 50 degrees C, 8 cycles, approx. 60
minutes per cycle while functionally tested. Power cycled 16 times, once
at each extreme; others random.
- 100% of units tested.
Turn on and Final Test
- Assembled product is powered up and tested with extensive software test.
- 100% of units tested.

SYSTEM HARDWARE AUDITS
Periodic hardware audits of HP Model 745i/747i is bundled systems are
scheduled to be conducted. Audits are performed to assist Exeter Computer
Manufacturing Operation in verifying continuing product quality. The audit
scope is defined in HP System Audit Flowchart A-5959-6347. An audit
procedure specification for the Model 745i/747i which defines actual audit
tests and test limits will be used. The audit test includes the following
categories. Safety, EMC, Software, Environmental and Workmanship.
Audit Reports are distributed monthly to key partners. These reports
describe the audit findings. A Corrective Action Request (C.A.R.) is also
written and distributed to appropriate persons.
